How Do Shipping Container Ports Work?

SHARE:

When one looks out at a shipping port, it can be overwhelming to see all the different containers and wonder how this works. According to the video, these ports are organized by containerization with custom shipping cases. Ships used to haul smaller loads, but now they are loaded and organized in shipping containers. These containers can be used in different modes of transport.

They are either carried on a boat or a train.

The container has to first be taken off the ships by cranes and then they are sorted at the port by small tractors to get them around the storage yard. Certain types of equipment are needed to get under these containers and make them easier to move. This also makes it easier to get onto the train or truck if they’re being moved again before reaching their final destination. The automatic stacker crane is able to move the shipping containers up and down, and they are stacked based on their number, and the computer system lets them know where they’re located so that they can be removed easily when it’s time to move them. Only a few shipping yards across the world still use paper systems, while the rest are on computer systems.
